Workshop: Willow Basketry March 22 and 23, 2025, 10am - 5pm
Make a functional and beautiful basket with one of the most pliant and supple weaving materials in nature: willow! Learn how to identify, locate, harvest and propagate willow for years of basket weaving. You will learn several weaving techniques and incorporate them into the structure of your basket, including: two-strand twining, four and three-rod wailing, French randing, and the three-rod border. Each of the techniques have a unique elegance and are suitable for making a basket all on their own. Learn this traditional skill and you will never see the landscape the same way again.
Workshops are held in central Vermont, USA, just outside of the lovely town of Montpelier. Winter classes use a heated space for learning and crafting. Bring your own lunch and appropriate winter clothing to be prepared for the outdoor elements of the class. When you secure your place in the workshop, please read the registration information in order to be prepared for your experience!
